Classroom Library checklist & organization!
Congratulations on taking the first step to building an effective and useful classroom library! Kids need multiple levels, genres, and topics and lots of text to keep them reading all year long!
There is no one way to organize your classroom library but this will help you to get on your way! The checklist will allow you to examine what you have and what you need by the following headers:
Part II will have you analyze the levels and content more closely to see what you have currently;
Part III will allow you to reflect and begin to create a list of what you need;
The last part is a shopping list that you can use to make decisions about what you still need and where you might be able to get it.
Also included is a huge list of ways to build your library in a cost-efficient approach. Building a library is done over time and while there are ways to acquire books inexpensively, you also want good quality literature. Be patient! You can never have too many books. If you hear someone say that chances are they are not a book lover of children’s lit and their library probably needs work. I have also included sites many that are free to help you inventory and level your collection.
Also, included is a banner that reads, "We love to read!" and a graph and survey slips for your students to figure out their favorite genre! This will help you to know their interests so you can add to your library all year long! Plus directions on how to turn the PDF into a large scale poster.
