Product Description

Is your classroom library a disaster or non-existing? Does it need a makeover? This product can do that and more! This is a MEGA bundle designed to create or recreate your classroom library and turn it into an interactive space that promotes reading, writing, and talking about books!

It all begins with inventorying your current library and then re-organizing it by genre and topic. The icons I created are designed to look like apps on an iPhone or smartphone. There are 26 genres represented and an additional 13 topics with icons to boot! There are also icons for new arrivals and book hospital for repairs. Labels have been created that you can attach to each book in your library that matches the icons on the baskets. There are two files; one as a PDF and one as a WORD doc. You can use Avery 5160 mailing labels but you don't have to.

Twenty-six half-sheet genre posters measuring 5.5 inches x 8.5 inches are also included, which can be used to introduce different genres and then displayed on a bulletin board as a quick reference.

This product has five parts to it, with each part in a separate file; labeled as PART 1; PART 2; PART 3; PART 4, and PART 5. Step by step directions included for each part. There are also three bulletin boards are included, as well as a banner that says “We Love to Read”.

In the Common Core or State Standards age, it is important that kids have a balanced reading diet of fiction and nonfiction and can read at the grade level bands. Having a fully stocked library can help! However, it is expensive! This product provides ways to get books into the hands of kids relatively inexpensively. The standards also state that kids are able to engage in collaborative conversations and with this product, it can be a stepping stone for building those interactions through Rating & Reviewing and book recommendations both included in this product.

You want to get to know your kids' interests as well as their favorite genre. This comes with a class chart and individuals graphs for kids to track the genres they read and set goals in an effort to broaden their tastes.

If you build it, they will come and then you will want to use the other features of this product to get to know your students as readers and what their interests are. I have created a bulletin board "Our Likes", which has kids writing about what they like in terms of genres and/or topics. This will help their friends find books they will engage with. This bulletin board allows you to add a photo of each student to the book template. See preview.

Also, there is a class genre chart that you can survey your students and then have the kids keep track of the genres they read in an effort to expand their reading tastes on an individual chart (included).

There is so much to this product, that I have included a Table of Contents both here and in the product itself:
