Classroom Library Labels! Plus Labels for Coding Books! 1st gr
I have scoured many resources to find categories perfect for a first grade library! While this is not an exhaustive list, it will get you on the right track to a clean and organized library!
I am a firm believer that books should face out to the reader, not by their spine as in traditional libraries. This allows the child to quickly flip through the books and in some cases “judging a book by its cover”. I also believe that libraries should have a mix of genres and topics as well as leveled books in between.
In this product you will find it all and more! The categories for this library are as follows:
Transportation, Careers, Folk/fairytales, The World Around Me (which could be places/people, recycling, environment), Holidays, Informational, Featured Author-this might be an author study, Celebrating Cultures, Heroes (could be super heroes or everyday heroes), mysteries, Magic Tree House, Magic School Bus, Award Winning (could be Caldecott or other), Favorite Series, Favorite Authors, General Fiction, Fables, Adventure, Humor, Jokes & Funny Poems, Biographies & Autobiographies, Realistic Fiction, Science and Nature, Our All Time Favorites (Kids bring in their favorite books for home to keep in the class for the year!), Animals, Favorite Character, Books by Us (class made or individually written and published books by students), Teacher Suggestions (you recommend favorites), Chapter Books by Authors with last names A-L, Chapter Books by Authors with last names M-Z and Wordless Picture Books. I have also created labels for leveled books, combining two-three levels together.
Also included in this product is a convenient way to code your books so that kids will return them to the right basket. I know that is always an issue but my coding system consists of a picture icon that matches the picture on the basket’s label. All you need to do is purchase Avery Address labels #5160 and print them. On one single label I have managed to fit 2-3 picture icons so that you will have an abundance and you can cut them apart, stick them on the book’s upper right hand corner and it is instant organization! If you do not want to print on labels, you can still print them and cut them apart and use book binding tape to secure them to the book. There are no labels for Books by Us (because they are kids’ published books) and Teacher Suggestions as those may be media center books.
I hope you enjoy this product and that your library beckons kids to read and read some more!
Labels for baskets measure roughly length 7.5 in. by 3.5" in. tall and fit many container, tubs or baskets.
If you have a request for up to 3 categories that are not listed, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will happily accommodate you. If you would like a customized library, meaning more than 3 additional categories and labels, I will be happy to create that for you for a negotiated fee.
Thanks for stopping by!
