Reading comprehension activities for classroom magazines (Scholastic News, Time For Kids, etc.). If you are like us, we've often struggled to get students excited about reading classroom magazines. So in an effort to raise the interest level and extend understanding for my students, we created this 6-page document which contains 20+ activities that can be used with any classroom magazine.
Some activities included in the document are: Making connections, making predictions, fact/opinion, alphabet games, rhyming, candy bar, creating a song and cd cover, and more.
An example is having students work with spelling patterns: Extend your students understanding vocabulary by having them try to find as many words with the same spelling pattern. An example of a spelling pattern may be words in which the silent e was dropped and a suffix was added. There are obviously many, many more spelling patterns.
Common Core Reading Standards: 1,2,3,4,6
