The end of the school year offers a great opportunity for students to reflect on their relationships with their fellow classmates.
This activity allows students to record a compliment about each of their classmates and each student ends up with an adorable mini-book that will boost their esteem, remind them of the school year and give them that warm and fuzzy feeling for years to come.
Directions: Each student records their name on the sheet and then passes the sheet to the student on the right.
That student writes a compliment about the student whose name appears on the paper. (Sarah, I think you are great at math. John, I like the way you read with expression. Tasha, thank you for shraing your snack with me when I didnt have one. Andrew, I enjoyed playing tag with you during recess. etc. It may be beneficial to model appropriate compliments before starting the activity.
- After writing the compliment, each student should sign their name and pass it to the right.
- Continue until every student has recorded a compliment for each classmate. This can be done over the course of several days.
- Finally, each student should have his original paper(s), cut out the strips and staple into a mini-book as a keepsake.
My students absolutely LOVE this activity every year and many students have returned years later and stated that they still have their compliment book and it continues to put a smile on their face. :)
