Do you have a paper clip and are you looking for a classroom management system that enhances your positive learning environment? One that allows you to manage behaviors without interrupting instruction If so, you'll like this system because it is mostly non verbal, eliminating embarrassment for your students. You can customize it, along with the behavior reflection form also available on my site (123 Classroom Management Reflection Form), to meet your classroom needs. One example of how it can be used:
Student needs a redirection during your instruction. You simply walk over and slide to paper clip to "1" This is basically a warning and usually helps students to self regulate. However, if the behavior continues, you simply keep instructing and slide the paper clip to "2". This is the student's cue to "Take a Break" They can go to your "take a break" chair or area to regroup. They return to the learning environment when they are ready or when you invite them back. If the behavior persists, they get their clip moved to a "3" at which time they meet with you to fill out a behavior reflection form. You focus on strategies to help them improve self regulation ~ If this format doesn't meet your needs, you can tweek it so it does! I use it a bit differently with my students taking a break and filling out a behavior reflection form at "2". "3" is reserved and immediately given for breaking school rules. Also, at our school, students are allowed to go to office, so if a behavior persists after a "2", I will give a "3" and send them to the office.
I love this system and I hope you do, too! The self reflection piece is what makes this so successful in the classroom. I hope you try it out!!
