I love baseball. So one year I had the brilliant idea of having my classes compete for treats over the course of the year (Otter Pops, Jolly Ranchers, Pizza, stickers, etc.).
They loved it.
The concept was that they could earn home runs. We called them "Home run Opportunities" or, as my students gleefully dubbed them, "HOs". These were the positive reinforcement markers. I didn't go into base running because I wanted to keep it simple and allow for as many HOs as possible.
They earned outs for rule infractions. This allowed for community building as they knew they were all responsible for any outs earned. They would remind one another about their gum (because I have laser, super power vision when it comes to this) and make sure tardy students made it to class on time.
In order to lose a HO, the class would have to incur three outs.
Plus other teachers were allowed to give HOs and outs, so it cut down on discipline in their classrooms also.
This could be modified to fit a soccer or football (or any other sports) theme.
You may modify this as your needs dictate.
