Want to start off the year with your student's monitoring their own noise levels without redirecting?
This is an amazing behavior management tool to "JUMP START" your classroom for the new school year!
First, cut all the letters apart and laminate them. Next, I adhere magnets to the back of each letter and stick them to the white board. When students are working in partners/groups, I monitor their noise levels using this system.
Before you begin using this management tool in your classroom, be sure to fully explain and model your guidelines and expectations to ensure the best result. I always model acceptable noise levels for various activities to make sure that my students understand what is expected of them.
If students begin talking at a higher noise level, remove the "E" from the white board, then the "S". and then the "I". If students loose all three of these letters, they will be left with "NO" which means there is no more talking (students must then work independently).
Generally, I do not warn my students about losing any of the letters. This reinforces them being in charge of monitoring their own noise levels.
Feedback/ratings are greatly appreciated. I would love to know what you think.
