Partner Sharing Tee- Shirt Cards
When it is time for my students to partner share while seated in their groups, it goes something like this:
1) Both students start talking at the same time.
2) Students begin to argue about why it's their turn to go first.
3) By this time, students have forgotten what they were supposed to discuss.
4) Partner sharing time is up and although well intentioned, that time was an educational waste.
Solution: A partner sharing tee shirt card was taped on each student's desk. When it was time to share, I would which letter would go first. That student would share as the other listened. When a student is out and a partner has to share with another partner with the same letter, the number on the pocket of the tee shirt is used- 1,2, or 3. The arguing has ceased and BAM- productive, focused partner talk has begun!
*** Another variation of these cards is the following- Each desk in the group has a different color tee shirt. When helpers from each group are needed, I call the students from a specific colored tee shirt. For example- "All the blue tee shirts. please collect the math manipulatives for your group."
These cards have made my classroom more efficient and students more productive!
