This was one of my favorite ways to help prevent students from coming late to class or leaving.
Each student would receive five passes every quarter. I typically printed them on brightly colored paper. These passes would be stapled together. These passes could be used for the bathroom, water fountain, locker, or as a tardy pass. I would take the pass from them, tear it, and throw it away after use.
If a student lost their passes or used them all, they would need to serve a detention for each time a pass would be needed. This was a great way to teach responsibility.
1. Put your name on the passes, the school year, and abbreviations for the school.
2. Type in the name of each student.
3. Print off the paper five times.
4. Staple on the edges.
5. Cut them out!
6. Reprint at the start of each quarter on new colored paper!
I saw a drastic decline in tardies as well as students leaving the classroom. Each pass was worth bonus points at the end of the quarter. I told students "the bonus points are my way of saying thank you for not wasting your valuable class time."
