In this activity, students measure objects around the classroom using nonstandard units of measurement. Each question is supported by pictures to promote inclusion of students with delayed reading abilities. This activity also follows the principles of Universal Design for Learning.
In addition to the two-page worksheet, posters with visuals are included. These posters can be placed around the classroom so students can easily locate each object to be measured and the items they will need to measure each item. For example, near the table with paperclips on it is a poster that reads "Measure the width of the table using paperclips".
My second graders completed this lesson and they loved it!
