I have created a money system for my 5th grade class. This helps with classroom management as the students are always wanting to earn more money and not have to pay for doing wrong.
This folder includes pages of $1 bills, $5 bills, $10 bills, $20 bills, $50 bills, and $100 bills. The money is about the size of monopoly money. The center is cut out so that you can add your picture or a picture of your school mascot as I did.
I have also included two posters that I hang up in my room. One is to remind them of ways they can earn money and the other it to remind them of things they will have to pay for.
At the end of every quarter, I had a class store. I would buy small items in bulk and price them accordingly. The students would get a chance to come up and choose items that they wanted to buy. They could also choose to save their money if they wished.
I also printed out certificates that they could purchase as well. These included, "wear a hat for a day", "sit on the couch for a day", "sit by a friend", "lunch with the teacher", and "teacher for a day". I have not had a student save their money for "teacher for a day" yet, although if they would have, there would have been a few that could have earned that privilege.
This system works extremely well in my classroom and teaches the students about money management and taking control of their actions.
