One of the things I hear from parents is that when they ask, “How was your day?” their kids answer with, “fine” or “good” and not much more. For this reason, I have developed a set of questions that parents can use as alternatives to “How was your day?”
This is why I created this short resource. I want parents to feel empowered to engage in deeper discussions about the school day. I realize that most parents do a great job connecting with their kids. However, as I’ve worked with other parents, I have learned that some of them are looking for tools that can help them connect in a conversational way with their children.
This resource can be used in many ways, including:
• At parent-teacher conferences or at meet-the-teacher nights
• In your syllabus or parent contract
• In your parent newsletter that you send home
• On your class webpage or class blog
• On your school website
• In your school newsletter
• With the PTO
This resource includes a longer description for each question as well as a printable one-page sheet that parents can use.
