Back to School Classroom Procedures and Expectations Editable Powerpoint includes 13 common classroom procedure slides with clipart and explanations; 3 short quizzes that could be used as warm ups or exit slips; and 5 rules with discussion topics such as chewing gum and getting drinks in class.
This lesson was designed to be used in my own 7th grade classroom, but it would work great for any upper elementary or secondary classroom. I go over about three to five slides per day during the first week of school, and have students model and take notes on the procedures.
The slides include a thought bubble with the question, "What should I do when..." and the topics include: entering the classroom, the bell rings, I need to sharpen pencil, I need to use restroom, I am tardy, someone knocks on the door, there is an alarm, I need help, I am absent, I finish work early, it is time for a brain break, it is time to turn in work, and class is almost over.
Although these are all procedures common to most secondary classrooms, you can change the expectations to work with your classroom needs. You could also easily duplicate slides to add more expectations, or delete slides that don't pertain to you.
Take the time in the beginning of the year to explicitly teach all of these behaviors, and it will pay off during the school year!
