This product can be used in any classroom, in any grade, as a read-aloud is being conducted. Simply put the chart together (I over-layed the concepts that did not require as much writing, glued together, and then laminated the chart so that it could be used over and over) and fill in the sections of the chart as they come up. The parts of the chart include: Major Characters, Minor Characters, Setting, Problem, Solution,Theme, Point of View, and New Words Learned. I also have a CHAMPS Expectations card for Read- Alouds attached to the top of my Read-Aloud chart (last page of the document). Lower grades can remove any part of the chart that may not apply to their reading standards. Upper grades may adjust concepts to fit needs. This is a great visual and tool for the students to have as you read-aloud picture books and even chapter books that may take week to complete. You could also make this a bulletin board instead of a chart if you prefer.
Utilizing this chart will help your students become active readers and can be used as a skill that they can implement for themselves as they read.
