This is my classroom rule book. I printed the pages and pasted them to a chipboard book and it has lasted me 5 years now. They could be printed and placed in a binder or laminated and stapled together to make a book as well.
I go over these rules every morning with my students before we go to free choice time. I have been used this method with children ranging from 2 years of to 5 years old and those with and without disabilities. This is the cornerstone to my classroom expectations lessons. It may take a few weeks but all I have to do is ask my students "What is our rule about cleaning?" and they are able to recite it back and follow the rule.
Each rule is phrased in I can statements and I have the children repeat them after me. This helps them internalize what is expected of them each day.
