Looking to implement silent signals in your classroom? These posters make it so easy! Classroom sign language is a super simple way to manage all of the "things" kids need to say and ask during the school day.
It drove me crazy when I would ask a question, a student would raise their hand, I would call on them, and...."Can I go to the bathroom?" AH!! I started with just a restroom signal, but then realized I could extend sign language to help guide our conversations and enrich my interactions with students. Before I call on a student, I know if they're answering a question, asking another question, or adding a comment! We all have that student who likes to add comments when you're looking for questions! With these signals, you'll be able to choose what is added to your class conversation. Please note, I did not use official ASL for the symbols. For the most part, I used the first letter of the word (e.g., R for restroom).
Included are posters for each of the following class needs - pick and choose which ones you would like to incorporate:
This is a wonderful classroom management tool. It's also very helpful for English-language learners! Though I specifically included Spanish translations, it can be helpful for all native languages. Giving ELLs a nonverbal method of communication goes a long way into incorporating them into your classroom community.
*****UPDATED JULY 2017
**THREE sets included! English, English/Spanish, & Spanish
**I added 5 new signals at the fabulous suggestion of one of my buyers (pencil, yes, no, wait, tissue). Please redownload ALL signs if you used a previous version, as I changed some of symbols. If you have already used the old signs in your current class, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll work something out!
If you need a different language on the signs, please fill out this form and I will be happy to add that set for you. :) Complimentary Custom Request: Google Forms
