I was using a classroom sign-out procedure where the students were responsible to sign-out the date and time on a clipboard whenever they left the classroom. I realized with my middle schoolers they were sneaky- they would walk to the table pretend to sign-out and then leave. I noticed some frequent fliers only have one sign-out at the end of the marking period. I realized I need to change my procedure...
Each student will get a card that is their responsibility. To leave (locker, bathroom, water, of what ever other reason) they present me with the card and I will sign off on the toilet paper representing their 4 opportunities. No card= no leaving. This allows me to ensure they are doing what they need and I can keep track of my frequent fliers.
I plan to copy onto different colored paper for each marking period.
