If you don't have a poster maker, you could make the tree out of butcher paper too.
We all buy many things for our classrooms that are not provided in the general school supply list.
I have made a donation tree poster to hang outside the classroom door, on the door or on the white board for Meet the Teacher and Curriculum Night. Those are the nights that they most parents attend.
I print the tree out on a poster maker so that it is about 2x3 feet. If your school does not have a poster machine, you can print it out at a big box office supply store for a about $4.
I then print out all the birds on regular size 8 1/2 x 11 card stock. I then laminate
the birds and Velcro them to the tree. There are several birds to choose from. Each has a common supply printed on it. They pick up the bird at Meet the Teacher Night and return the bird with the item at their convenience.
Also included is a page of blank birds so you can add the items you need.
