BACK TO SCHOOL: “GET TO KNOW YOUR CLASSMATE CARDS”
Rationale: The more your students are able to know about each other, the more likely they are to respect each other. Using these cards can reduce the amount of behavior problems in your class by showing that all students have strengths, skills, interests, and worth. When students create their own trading card, they are increasing their own self confidence through actualization of skills, interest and merit. With the popularity of sport cards and hobby based trading cards, this file will be one of the most rewarding activities that you can involve your class in.
The goal of this file is to bring your class closer together to start of the year on the right foot.
Contents:
1. There are directions on how to create the cards
2. There is an example of a card (back to front)
3. There is a class set of 30 cards (back to front)
4. There is a list of possible uses for the cards
5. There are a variety of cards to choose from (front to back)

Trading Card uses:
• Sorting by strengths:
• Take the printed cards and sort the cards according to strengths. Students can identify with each other according to their strengths.
• Sorting by Gender:
• This is a great primary sorting activity. This allows students to sort the cards by gender, and thus utilizing counting and comparing skills
• Sorting by goals:
• When students see that their peers have similar goals, they are more likely to discuss strategies that are likely to assist them in achieving the strategies.
• The teacher can use a class set of cards to decide upon classroom jobs, who will participate next, or who will work with each other.
• The teacher can use the cards for morning attendance or morning breakfast (accounting purposes).
• The teacher can use the cards to clip to the students work when posted outside the classroom on the hallway halls.
• The cards can be used when a student signs out of the classroom by placing their card next to the door; showing that they left the classroom (for office, guidance, nurse or bathroom).
• The cards can be used by the students to post where they are at in the formal writing process in the writer’s workshop.

There are ton of uses for these cards. Most importantly, your students will learn more about each other in this activity then they will all year without this activity!!!!
