In this activity, students will be building their own baking soda-and-vinegar clay volcanoes as an engagement and introduction for volcanoes, and using their models to begin answering questions on the structure of volcanoes and what tectonic scenarios cause them. This assignment includes a reading and many pictures to help the student imagine what a volcano and its parts look like, where they are, and what causes them. I have even included several word games -- matching, word search, and a crossword -- that will help students to become more familiar with volcanoes and their formation!
