This resource is designed to allow you to mix and match the types of questions and vocabulary formats that work best for your students.

This resource contains three sections:

A. Discussion Questions

In this resource there are TWO types of questioning options:

  • Option 1: There is one question for each chapter. These questions are designed to be higher order thinking and will require your students to retrieve evidence from the text to support their answer. This allows students to really focus their thinking and deeply elaborate on one topic.
  • Option 2: Five questions per chapter which range across all levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy, from knowledge to application.
  • There are answer keys provided for both options.

B. Vocabulary -

  • Option 1: Use the vocabulary words at the bottom of the single question page to complete the following vocabulary table where students will need to use the word in multiple aspects.
  • Option 2: Use the vocabulary question sheet, which has FOUR vocabulary questions from each chapter. This sheet includes an answer key!
  • Option 3: For your more creative students, use the vocabulary choice board which will prompt students to choose from one of these activities. The product contains a template for each of these options.
  • Synonyms and Antonyms
  • You're the Teacher
  • Perfectly Poetic
  • Silly Sentences
  • Summarizing
  • Write a Story
  • What's that Tune?

To accommodate quick readers, and students who need more of a challenge, this product contains NINE extended learning activities including:

  • Determine the Theme
  • Creative Writing Prompts
  • Let's Get Persuasive
  • Figurative Language Fun
  • Make Connections
  • Fun with Characters
  • Create a Reader's Theater Directions

ANSWER KEYS ARE NOT PROVIDED FOR EXTENSION ACTIVITIES.

I suggest using this packet to supplement guided reading time or literacy centers.
