PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Clifford wrote that we are responsible not only for our actions but for our beliefs as well. He uses thought experiments to make his case. Imagine a captain looks at his ship and sees that it is not seaworthy. But then because he didn't want to spend the money, he convinced himself that the ship was seaworthy even though it wasn't. The ship sails and sinks killing everyone on board. Is the captain morally responsible? And if it doesn't sink don't we still hold him accountable? The point is you need reasons (which are beliefs) for your actions, but your reasons themselves have to be arrived at correctly. They have to be justified beliefs, not beliefs that you for example believe for convenience.
