This activity assesses your students' knowledge of the vegetation and precipitation patterns of each climate type.It is in PowerPoint format, with one photo on each slide. The photo is in a specific climate type and there are at least a few clues in each photo that should allow students to make an educated guess. Each slide also includes notes for you as the teacher, with the answers as well as the aspects of the photo that show which type of climate is in that particular location.
There are a few ways you can use this in your classroom. I never used it as an actual quiz, but more as a review after learning specifics about climate. However, quiz away if that's what you want! You could also turn it into a group competition, where students discuss together and decide what climate it is. There are so many possibilities!
There are thirteen climate types shown, and the answers list the climate type as well as the climate group:
Tropical Wet and Dry
Mild Humid Subtropical
Mild Marine West Coast
Continental Warm Summer
Continental Cold Summer
Polar Ice Cap
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did! If you are looking for more resources for teaching climate, you might like these:
