This file contains an activity that can be used at any grade level. It can easily be modified based on your creativity for the students you have. This activity is called, “Clock My Fitness.” It uses the element of fitness and telling time as a cross-curricular method of teaching to allow students to reinforce their skills in telling time and improving their health/fitness. This is a good activity to use especially at the younger aged kids because they are starting to learn about how to tell time on a clock while moving about the gym. It’s a way to reinforce classroom subjects while keeping the kids physically active. This activity can be a lesson focus pertaining to certain exercises or muscle groups set by the teacher. It can also be used a cool-down with less intense exercises to focus on as well as a warm-up with more intense exercises to get the class ready for the period. Most elementary aged students don’t know how to use a regular clock and are easily adjusted to telling time with a digital clock. This activity allows them to learn about time while moving about the classroom. Activities that keep the kids engaged and are fun will most likely allow for better processing so that the students can retain the information for later. The skills and concepts involved are as followed: teamwork, sportsmanship, counting skills in math, body control, speed, hand-eye coordination, muscular strength, muscular endurance, telling time, communication, cardiovascular endurance, and quickness. The file contains the name of the activity, standards, skills/concepts covered, a description, and multiple diagrams on how to setup the class. Try this file if you want a new activity as well as a cross-curricular approach. Enjoy!
