This download is a worksheet with some excerpts from Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. This excerpt is in English but has a bunch of random words thrown in that are more or less gibberish. Those words are underlined. Students should read the excerpt and try and determine what they know or can infer about the underlined words. Is it a noun, verb, etc? Is it a type of something? How do you know? Then discuss as a class.
This is a great activity to show students that you don't HAVE to understand every single word to understand the meaning of a certain passage. I use it in my French classroom to show students they don't always have to grab a dictionary when they don't understand a word. This can be used in any language class, or any subject for that matter.
