PRINT, COPY, + READY TO GO!
Reduce Prep Time! Use it every week... all year!
Close Reading is an important, but often difficult skill to teach (and to learn!) This close reading rubric will make it so much easier! It is designed to work with most fiction texts in your classroom and/or school library. You can use this rubric for homework or in the classroom. Keep parents actively involved by having them sign the rubric. Without the signature, the highest score a student may earn is an 80%. Parent involvement increases and grades rise when students use it consistently. I included one that doesn’t require a signature so you can easily use it during school as well.
There are so many ways to use this rubric! Here are some suggestions:
-Use in conjunction with your reading book.-Use as writing prompts for journals.
-Use in guided reading groups and literature circles as discussion prompts.
-Use as prompts for partner discussions.
- Choose one to display on the document camera for the whole class to use as a prompt.
-Allow students to choose the assignment for discussion/ writing (always very popular!)
-Use as a center activity.
