This is a pack of nonfiction
reading passages about Australian and New Zealand animals.
I used this pack with my first graders to help engage my
kids who love animals. They pick an animal and then are partnered
with another student with the same animal. They read the passage
together first. Next, they go through and make close read
marks (we had been doing close reads as a class, so this was not
new to them). After they read it a second time, they worked together
to complete the questions about the animal. Last, I had my students
write a paragraph summarizing their animal. Some students even
chose to make a poster about their animal. There are many ways to
use these reading passages. Here is what is included in this pack.
Reading passages included:
graphic organizers for each passage
text-dependent comprehension questions for each passage
animal fact organizer
writing paper (2 choices)
animal writing research paper
new vocabulary paper
***This pack is also included in an interactive notebook and close read bundle. If you are interested, check out the Australian Animal BUNDLE
