PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Getting your students to slow down, reflect as they read, and engage with the text in different ways are all part of being a good reader and are goals of close reading. While this can be a difficult skill for students to master, teaching it doesn't have to be! Jennifer Horner and I have teamed up to create an easy to use Close Read for primary students.

This 112 page unit includes everything you need to engage in a Thanksgiving Close Read. This unit is broken down in an easy to use 5 day lesson plan.
Day 1 - Cold Read
Day 2 - Vocabulary
Day 3 - Text Dependent/Text Inspired Questions
Day 4 - Collaborative Questioning
Day 5 - Cumulative Wrap Up

Nurturing these higher level skills takes time and many different techniques. Therefore, vocabulary words, picture cards, questions, response sheets, graphic organizers, retelling pieces, partner responses, and MORE are included for you to differentiate your instruction. An informational text on Wild Turkeys is also included so students can compare and contrast fiction to non fiction. We hope you enjoy!!

Please note: This unit is closely aligned with Common Core and TNCore's Summer 2015 Training, specifically targeting anchor standard: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.1
