This close reading activity will guide students in an analysis of Robert Kennedy's speech following Martin Luther King's assassination. Students will understand what makes the speech so powerful (ethos, logos, and pathos are included and it would be helpful if students are already familiar with these terms). Also, it would be helpful if the teacher showed class a video of Robert Kennedy delivering the speech (available on YouTube.) It is also important to give students some background. Robert Kennedy delivered this speech to a crowd, giving them the news about the assassination of MLK.
