The students take a small but powerful excerpt from "Walk Two Moons" and analyze it through annotation and discussion to gain a deeper understanding. Students will read the text multiple times, making annotations to interact with the text through questioning and forming ideas. They will then discuss their annotations and findings and take part in a student led and teacher facilitated dialogue involving text dependent questions. A close read will benefit any classroom and lends itself to the Common Core standards and the Danielson Framework. This activity includes an introduction to close reads, the process for implementing the lesson, the excerpt, as well as the text dependent questions.
