This product includes a blank unit planner, a sample unit, and teaching notes for planning your own close reading, text based questions, and related reading workshop stations.
Last year, I was introduced to close reading. I really struggled with how to fit together close reading, which is currently considered best practice in teaching the Common Core State Standards, and reading workshop, which is also considered best practice instruction, especially in the National Board for Professional Teaching Literacy Standards. I created this unit planner to help link the two practices together. Also, there is not one "right" way to do a close read. This unit planner leaves the lessons open to what makes the most sense for you and your students.
The sample unit is on the book Frog and Toad Together by Arnold Lobel. This is a K-1 complexity band text exemplar listed in the CCSS.
I am going to post specific units I do in my first grade classroom throughout the year.
I hope this helps as you plan standards based reading instruction for your students!!!
