Description

Close Reading

One of the Common Core Anchor Standards for elementary grades is "Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text."

This booklet was created to use in a small group setting to support students learning to read closely non-fiction text.

The student directions and booklet explain what close reading is, what to look for and determine in each reading, and asks students to back up their ideas and answers with evidence from the text.

★Completed booklets can be used as a formative or summative assessment and show students' progress toward meeting several CCSS for non-fiction text.
