This pack of 3 different types of Close Reading bookmarks can be used in a variety of ways:
-Small group instruction
-Whole group instruction
I have used these bookmarks with 3rd through 5th grade and have had much success. I have found that my students read more thoroughly and accurately. I find it helpful to also make Anchor Charts of these Close Reading Strategies to match the bookmarks. I find that I refer to them frequently!
The first set includes simple and easy Close Reading markings for your students to use as they read through a piece of text. The symbols are small enough that they can mark in margins or right in the paragraphs themselves. The symbols are:
-underline (key words/details)
-check mark (I get it)
-Circle (for challenging words)
-Question mark (I don’t get it)
-Exclamation mark (I was surprised!)
-Connecting circles (connection)
-A little sloth at the bottom of the bookmark reminds them to also make little notes as they go
The second set of books marks includes a 3 step Close Reading procedure with questions to ask themselves as they go.
The third set of bookmarks display a different 3 step process for increasing comprehension through a “chunking-style” approach for reading.
