Close Reading Symbols Desk Reference
This set of fun bookmarks to use during close reading activities is a helpful tool for use with small reading groups or during whole class instruction and close reading practice. They may also be used independently by students as a desk reference tool.
There are 8 simple, easy to draw symbols that I have found to be most beneficial in my classroom.
circle - unfamiliar word
underline - key word or detail
star - important
question mark - I have a question.
exclamation mark - interesting or surprising
check mark - I understand.
C - I made a connection.
words - I'm thinking.
The annotation marks are written in the margins and spaces of a reading selection as learners note their reactions and thoughts while reading with their pencil in hand!
Five different designs are in this set, each featuring adorable clipart of both boys and girls holding pencils. Colored and black and white versions are included. The black and white set will look great when copied on bright paper or cardstock. There is also a set of three bookmarks with a BLANK table so that students may add any new or different symbols to use as needed.
If you are looking for informational text passages to use as close reads, you can find some at my store too!
