This handout set can be used multiple ways. It allows you to follow the step-by-step format that is totally Common Core when it comes to Close Reading.
These pages take the student from "what do you already know" to a summary of the text after walking them through different types on annotation as well as work with context clues. I use it weekly in my reading classes. It works for virtually every reading text because you "chunk," or section off the reading.
These pages include requirements for the students to use questioning, context clues, annotations (drawing, outlining, and summarizing), and analysis of text structures.
What's great about it is that it can be used over and over again, and the kids can figure out what annotation/documentation forms work for them.
Believe me, I have been to approximately ten Common Core conference in the last 15 months. This is what you want. Remember--Keep the chunks (sections) small. It is quality and not quantity.
You will love it.
