This interactive smartboard lesson begins with a detailed complete mini lesson teaching what it means to use close reading skills. This part could actually be broken into multiple minilessons depending on the length of time the teacher wants to spend on each strategy. It gives students questions they can ask themselves when reading for deeper meaning and doing close reading. In addition, it provides some slides of fun practice using their close reading skills. A reveal puzzle, scenarios that ask deeper questions for students to practice their inferencing skills, and a link to two videos that allow students to determine the theme of the story. Great for students in grades 3-6 depending on the level of the class. Some information might be challenging for 3rd graders, but can easily be used with teacher direction. All slides are self correcting so it can be used as a whole group lesson that is teacher directed or as an independent lesson in a station or computer lab. Created with Smart Notebook 11.
