This is a large summative project that I used after teaching a unit on close reading documentaries. The unit took 4 weeks. The students need to learn content-specific terminology and practice analyzing film.
The essential question that guided the unit and this assessment was: Are documentaries agents of social change and social critique?
This assessment asks students to analyze several aspects of documentary film and produce their own storyboard. I gave my students seven days to do this. They had four 50-minute class periods to work on this in class as well.
Please note, the film analysis sheet included here was put together using input from several colleagues, too.
There is a storyboard rubric here, too.
