Help your students practice reading comprehension skills throughout the year in both fiction and non-fiction. I have other programs in my store with more extensive practice activities for each skill area. This bundle, however, contains activities to help supplement your reading comprehension lessons all year long. The unit follows my own classroom curriculum. There are three units in the bundle: FALL, WINTER and SPRING. The materials could be used any time of year if your curriculum map is different from mine. There are 24 pages of original text and 53 activity pages, plus posters and teacher notes.
The focus is on practice of close reading skills. Throughout the year, as you want students to build their reading comprehension abilities. I have provided original informative and fiction text passages so they can mark the text and then go back and review what they thought was important as they answer the questions or do the activities. Each passage is 1 to 2 pages in length and there are student pages to go with each text.
Informational text activities focus on :
Key Ideas, Main Idea and Supporting Facts, Text Evidence, Series of Events, Text Features, Compare and Contrast
The fiction stories are followed by activities that practice:
Story Structure, Character Response, Compare and Contrast, Cause and Effect.
The focus for the all informative text activities is to help students learn that they must base their answers on the information in the text. They are repeatedly asked to look back in the text to find and prove their answers.
All activities are designed to supplement regular classroom curriculum. The skill may be repeated throughout the year, but the degree of difficulty increases.
The unit is designed around 2nd grade standards, but would work well for 3rd grade groups or review.
Each of the units in the bundle are also sold separately in my store. Buying the bundle saves you over 30%!
