If your middle school students have a difficult time comprehending nonfiction & informational text like mine do, this project is for YOU!
Students will use a strategy called close reading to analyze and comprehend a nonfiction text of THEIR CHOICE & create a lap book of information they learned from the text.
Please download the PREVIEW to get a quick run-down of the project. Here are the items included in this zip file:
1. Project Introduction & Rubric (I have included this as a PDF AND a .docx so you can edit this to your liking!) This is what I printed and gave to the students to help them understand the project. It breaks down both parts of the projects and offers details to help students understand the task at hand. Grading rubric and student check list included!!!
2. Close Reading Guide
This is the packet students will write in to analyze their text. I sell this product separately - please be sure not to purchase it along with this product!
3. Lap Book Templates (see thumbnail & preview picture) for students to use when they create their lap book. All you have to provide is the file folder and art supplies.
4. Close Reading Mini Poster to print, laminate, and hang while doing this project.
When we did this project, we used SCIENCE articles found online (included in the project instructions), but this can be edited to use WHATEVER nonfiction text you would like! :) This project is fairly complex, so please leave me any questions re: the project! I see my students for 1 hour per day & this project will take us almost 2 weeks to complete.
