Using the questioning guide in this close reading lesson plan will help your readers think critically about the information presented in the texts they read.
Questioning is designed to provide more support as needed to analyze and make connections to self and to other texts.
Readers earn points in 6 critical areas:
Understanding author’s purpose,
Making connections to prior knowledge,
Identifying the organization of information/pattern of the book,
Making connections to self, and
Making connections to other texts/sources
Scoring helps teachers to keep track of progress and to identify specific needs.
This guide was designed for use with individuals who need to improve their critical reading/thinking skills. It can be used individually or in small group with separate records kept per child. You can target types of questions to students who need to develop that kind of thinking. Questioning guide can be used with large groups also.
