A great introduction to CLOSE reading for the secondary classroom, this lesson gets students thinking about important quotes.
This is an awesome activity to begin any reading unit.
Five thought-provoking quotes focus students on the importance of reading! (Quotes are from JK Rowling, Horace Mann, Mark Twain, John Green, and Dr. Seuss.)
The worksheet provides students with an example response from a sample quote. (The sample helps alleviate the dreaded "I don't know what to write!")
Students respond independently to the quotes on the worksheet. Later, groups discuss individual quotes and responses.
Each group shares insights with the class.
This product includes a two-page worksheet, a lesson plan, an exit ticket and a sample answer key (for the exit ticket only).
A PowerPoint is also included to help facilitate the lesson.
