These are my Close Reading Activities from my Poetry Unit for Interactive Student Notebooks for older students. Students annotate and discuss three classic poems that get progressively more challenging over the course of study. The third Close Read can also be used as a quiz. Each Close Read comes with annotations for the teacher. (grades 7-10)
This resource details the IN (Bellringer) - THROUGH (Teacher Input/Guided Classwork) - OUT (Exit/Independent Practice/Homework) method. This is a great way to ensure gradual release of responsibility.
What You Get:
1. Close Reading Lesson Plans for three classic poems ("Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost, "Up-Hill" by Christina Georgina Rossetti, and "I Died for Beauty" by Emily Dickinson)
2. Student Sample and Teacher's Guides
3. A quiz version of the third close read
4. Practice texts
