I created this close reading protocol and organizer to help my students with special needs navigate a close read. In turn, many of my general ed. counterparts wanted a copy!
This is meant to help students delineate what should happen throughout the multiple re-readings of a text. There is a large focus on previewing the text and various strategies to help get the "gist" of a text, without actually reading all of the words (this is a big help to our easily frustrated students and low readers). This is especially targeted for non-fiction texts, although it would work with fiction as well!
