Close reading can be a complicated task for students. This is a step-by-step "cheat sheet" for your students to use either independently, with a small group, or as a whole class. The teacher can make copies of the appropriate print out of the close read directions according to what day they are on- first read through, 2nd read, and 3rd read. Each day addresses a different skill- main idea/key details, vocabulary, comprehension & higher-level thinking. The task at the end of each day can be individualized and vary according to the teacher's and students' needs. On the bottom of each handout, I have included the corresponding CCSS.
This is a citrus-themed, color version of my Close Reading Handouts. It also comes with a black/white bubble-border version.
Be sure to check out my "Annotating Text" handout that goes with this Close Reading handout! Students will use it on Day 3 in order to annotate their text.
My evidence posters are also available in my store and will be used by students to respond to text dependent questions (TDQs) from the close reads.
