Close Reading is a strategy that supports the Common Core Reading Standards for both Literature and Informational Text. This instructional strategy was adapted to meet the needs of K-2 students who are simultaneously learning to read and reading to learn. It outlines a 3 step process I use in my first grade ELD classroom where students reading levels range from emergent to fluent readers.
