Help students master the art of close reading with two analysis graphic organizers. In the first template, students use rhetorical analysis strategies to analyze texts through the PASTA device. Students are prompted to craft side-by-side summaries and rhetorical precis; they are also asked to provide a brief analysis of how the features of the text help the author achieve his or her intended purpose. In the second template, students use literary analysis strategies to analyze texts through the SOAPSTone device. Students focus on theme development.
While I designed this template for my AP Language and Composition classes, it could easily be used in any class looking at complex texts. Use it as a student tool for discussion or extended writing preparation.
This product is also available in the AP Language and Composition Bundle.
