Common Core aligned lesson to help teach students to create meaningful questions and understand the text more deeply. This lesson is a great to help teach your class what it looks like to close read a short passage. Choose any poem, story, or passage that is no longer than a page or two. This is a great opportunity to use more complex text that students may not be able to read independently.
Teach responding to the text using evidence in an essay form. The worksheets can be used whole class, guided reading groups, independently for continual assessment.
Great way to begin using close reading discussion techniques with your class and help students reach and exceed the new common core standards!
This is a lesson that can be done in one day or spread out over two or three days.
