GENESIS 2 & 3
CLOSE READING AND TEXTUAL ANALYSIS
INCLUDED IN THIS UNIT ARE THE FOLLOWING:
➢ GENESIS Chapters 2 and 3. I have another TpT unit on Genesis One but have included the chapter here for convenience sake.
➢ 20 Textual Analysis/Close Reading questions.
➢ 20 task cards with the same questions. Four blank task cards where your own questions may be added. I print the task cards on cardstock, cut them out, and distribute them to my students - sometimes this is done in groups but not always. The questions vary as to difficulty.
I teach Genesis at the beginning of the semester as a way to engage my students in Close Reading and Textual Analysis. I sometimes teach only Chapters 1 to 3. My goal with Genesis is first and foremost to make sure my students are familiar with the story of the Fall of Man and the presentation of Good and Evil as depicted in Genesis 2 and 3.
It can no longer be assumed that students are familiar with this text. I teach Genesis for several reasons, but generally speaking the courses that I teach are concerned with moral choice, justice, law, good and evil, and moral responsibility. I introduce students to textual analysis and key concepts of the Western world at the very beginning of my course by way of readings from the Old Testament.
The questions and answers approach the Old Testament through critical interpretation, close reading, and textual analysis. The approach is in the spirit of political philosophy.
I did not include teacher notes in this first unit on 2 & 3 as I was not sure that everyone would want the perspective of political theory. If you decide that you do want to purchase the notes they will be forthcoming in my Complete Unit on Genesis Chapters 1, 2, & 3. This unit will include a Google Classroom component and the notes along with what is available here.
