This is the perfect beginning close reader's bookmark! With symbols reminding students how to "read with a pencil," they can easily apply these to both fiction and nonfiction text. I have used these symbols in my own first grade classroom. After some modeling, the students have begun to use them independently.
This is a MUST for the primary classroom. Use it in first OR second grade. It can even be introduced in kindergarten! Just print on cardstock, laminate and bam! You will have this for years to come.
Best of all, this resource will help students prepare for the intermediate grades where they will need to be able to read and analyze text independently. Get them used to taking notes while they read now!
Please comment with how your students do with the symbols and add any suggestions you may have.
